spring mantel

My husband told me last night that I should have named my blog "That is so Last Month!" because he says I can't stand things the same around here for more than a month at a time.  I guess I'm guilty as charged.  Christmas decorations go up the weekend after Thanksgiving, and by the time the last gift is unwrapped, I'm ready to start packing up the tree.  Something is always getting a coat of paint or being moved around, and just when I "finish" decorating a room, I'm about ready to start over again.

This time I didn't even wait till Valentine's Day was over.  I had worked on these items earlier in the week, and after dinner on February 14, the Valentine's mantel was coming down!

The forsythia is starting to bloom in Tennessee, and I even have a few early daffodils breaking through.  And although the winter here has been unusually mild (and the real winter weather may still be on its way), I'm ready for warmer temperatures and longer days.  We'll forget about the seasonal allergies part for now.

I put this little guy together using a rustic frame I had on hand, a branch from the yard, and a couple of fabric scraps.  The fun thing about this was that I used all three of my favorite crafting supplies: glue gun, Mod Podge, and Heat n Bond.  I ironed the bird onto the yellow dandelion fabric, Mod Podged that to a piece of cardboard to stand up in the frame, then hot glued the branch kind of 3D-style across the front.  I wanted it to look like little buds were bursting out on the branch, so I took little tight rolls of bright green tissue paper and hot glued them to the early buds that were starting to form.  LOVE!

This is the first of three subway signs I'm working on to hang in our hallway.  More on this later.

I had such a fun time putting together my spring mantel, that I'd love to see YOUR great mantel creations!  Please stop by this week and link up!

  4. OK now after seeing this I like the idea of gray for your bookshelves and armoire something to echo the gray in your bricks....love the spring mantel. Here in NY we are still in the thick of winter, so the snowmen stay up, and then everything will get a touch of green for St. Patty's day.
