Welcome to Day 24 of "31 days to a Remodeled Room." Yesterday I showed you the kitchen window shade. Today we're going to take a look at the new area rugs in the living room and kitchen. Then tomorrow, we'll head into the bathroom for the rest of the series till the BIG REVEAL coming up on October 31! If you haven't become a Delectable Home follower through Google Friend Connect or by subscribing via email or your favorite reader, please take a minute to do this now. I'll be drawing a winner for the burlap pillow cover (see sidebar) from those who signed up during the October 31-day series!
Becky's new area rugs were definitely the highest priced items purchased for this remodel, even though we stayed on the lower end of the rug price range. In the living room, I recommended an 8'x10' rug, and in the kitchen, a 3'x5' or 4'x6' rug, so the large sizes were a contributing factor in the cost. However, when considering rugs, bigger is definitely better! Look at the rug size guide below (from Orvis.com) - the 5'x8' rugs don't really anchor the furniture; they just look kind of skimpy.
This was my inspiration rug: Dash and Albert Vine Chocolate Tufted and Carved Wool Rug (8'x10' for $1,260 at Layla Grace).
We weren't sure at first whether we wanted to use black or dark brown, but Becky WAS SURE that she didn't want to pay that much for her rug. So we shopped, and shopped, and shopped, and shopped...
We searched online and at local stores like Home Goods & Tuesday Morning. We found at least 20 rugs that would fit our color and size criteria as well as our budget of $300 or less. We sent photos back and forth on our phones for weeks. And finally we decided on this rug from Target for her living area (Style: Fairfield New York, approx. 8'x10' for $215, online only):
And she found this rug at Target for her kitchen, with matching dish towels and placemats for a little children's table that she has:
I can't wait to show you the AFTER photos - these rugs really make the space! Would a new area rug help update your room?
Tomorrow I'll be taking you into the bathroom for the wall cabinet & towel bar addition.
