31 days {14}: dress up hutch

Welcome to day 14 of "31 days to a Remodeled Room." Yesterday I showed you some updates to Becky's dining room furniture; today we'll look at another piece of that set - the hutch.

Becky had already made a few updates to her dining area, using some advice courtesy of her blog crush, Lissa at Humble Pie:

Becky's changes were an improvement and a definite step toward following Lissa's style (photo, left) but the dressed-down hutch wasn't really consistent with the look of the rest of Becky's dining area.  So we decided to dress the hutch back up a bit and move the canisters, etc. to accessorize the remodeled kitchen.

I started with a roll of black & white damask wrapping paper from Hobby Lobby (about $5) and my trusty glue gun.  I cut and glued the paper into the back of the hutch, and then we rummaged through Becky's cabinets for as many white dishes as we could find.  (If you like this look but don't already have white dishes, garage sales & thrift stores yield great finds for cheap!)

I thought the hutch needed more height, so Becky picked up a large basket and trunk (again, Hobby Lobby) to set on top.  These are great for storage too - you could put extra dishes, table linens, or seasonal table decorations in there.  And here's how it turned out:

Tomorrow: light shades
