31 days {13}: dining table & chair covers

This is day 13 of "31 days to a Remodeled Room." Yesterday we moved into the dining area with some new artwork.  Today, I'll show you the table and chair covers.

Initially, Becky and I had talked about the possibility of painting her dining room set.  We had both seen and loved similar sets in blogland that had been painted a distressed white or gray.  However, she decided not to paint her set at this time.  So how to bring it up to date?

Paint and fabric are two relatively quick and easy decorating fixes.  If paint was out, I knew fabric would have to be in.  So I scanned the Internet for some ruffly burlap tablecloths:

Such cute stuff!  I ended up making two different burlap tablecloths - one with a wide contrasting ruffle in a fabric to coordinate with the window panels and chair covers (shown below), and another very similar to the Cherry Hill Cottage design in all burlap with a small ruffle (not pictured).  The chairs got simple slipcovers in the same canvas we used on the sofas.  I also made a runner for the center of the table out of a blue & gray stripe fabric to add a punch of color to the neutrals.  All of this is easy to throw into the wash (but to minimize wrinkles, just dry for 10 minutes or so and then put back onto the furniture to dry completely).
Next time: dress up hutch
